IES Hermanos Machado

IES Hermanos Machado is a state high school of secondary education and VET depending on the Regional Educational Authority in Andalucía and placed in the town of Dos Hermanas, Seville. Our institution was founded 30 years ago and nowadays we offer Compulsory Secondary Education, Upper Secondary Education and IVET and HVET courses Vocational Education Training are offered. Our figures are: 712 students, and 56 teachers in all the different disciplines. Our high school is involved in some of the most important projects and programs offered by the Ministry of Education and the Regional Education Authority such as the Bilingual Schools Project, ICT Schools to introduce the usage of computers in ordinary classrooms. Besides, our high school is integrated in the network of State Secondary and VET Schools led by the Regional Education Authority that manage the certificate in Quality Management, according to ISO 9001:2015 standards, and since 2009 May, we are also certified by international auditor company AENOR. One of the functional strategies of our school is the internationalization of the study process. We have included the European dimension in our policy, aim and vision in order to get a personal and professional enrichment in our students through their participation in the different activities and international experiences. We have a long experience both in implementing and managing EU-projects, and this experience makes us a reliable for the efficient and effective project implementation. We develop exchanges with other high schools from the European Union, participate in different European programs, receive visits of students from several European countries, and our VET students develop internships in different countries of the EU.

Therefore, we have a solid local, national and European network of enterprises and schools, which guarantee a great impact and dissemination of the project results. All this experience has allowed us to meet good partners in several European countries, where we have had extraordinary experiences, exchanged good practices and known different educational systems, always under the premise of getting a direct impact to improve our teaching for students, and acquiring new professional competences and developing new skills for the labour market. As for the teachers, we recognize the importance and value of being up to date with educational measures and continuous training. In this way we motivate the participation in actions of training seminars and courses for scientific and pedagogical contents which support the teachers in improving their performance. Our school is in a process of methodological updating to improve student learning and the inclusion of students at risk.

Most of the teacher staff is being trained in these techniques and there are already some experts in cooperative learning, peer mediation, Project Based Learning, CLIL methodology, peer mediation, mindfulness, etc

Our school has a multidisciplinary team of teachers who share the common goal of teaching their subject through English and some of our teachers organize teacher training courses on methodology, and others are in the teacher training staff on Erasmus+ project, this allows us a network of collaborating VET schools that can help us in the testing of the results produced by the project. We develop exchanges with high schools from the EU, participate in different European programs, receive students from other high schools, and our VET students develop internships in different countries of the European Union. Our experience in European projects goes back to 2005, when we participated in mobility projects led by the Regional Education Authority in Andalucía. Our school has experience in coordinating European projects in the frame of PAP and Erasmus +: Grundtvig, Comenius, Leonardo da Vinci and KA1 and KA2. All this experience has allowed us to meet good partners in several European countries, where we have had extraordinary experiences, exchanged good practices and known different educational systems, always under the premise of getting a direct impact to improve our teaching for students, and acquiring new professional competences and developing new skills for the labour market.

We have an international Project team formed by experienced teachers who have participated in European projects and exchanges and of course they have designed and carried out activities similar to those proposed in this project.There is a press officer in charge of disseminating news about our school, activities and international projects, that in cooperation with the deputy mantains the school website and the social network. The staff of the IES Hermanos Machado has a long-lasting experience about European projects management and sharing skills and best practices. The teacher staff involves in this project has specific skills in the field of the project management, mostly in the role of leader partner in many European. As I have mentioned before, we have a long experience in the quality management. We have participate in an Erasmus+ project EQAVET-in practice. EQAVET is an EU toolbox that aims to increase the transparency, consistency and transferability of VET providers across Europe This project developed guidelines to increase the benefit of EQAVET’s criteria to national framework of the participant European countries at provider level. Mr. José Eduardo Navarro Molina is the principal of the school. He has a Computing MA and is expertise in Quality System processes, auditor and evaluator expert on Erasmus+ actions KA1. He also teaches in the business organization and marketing Department at the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville in subject like Management Information Systems. He also has taught the subject Auditory information Systems at the Computing Department at the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville.

Mrs. María Teresa Domínguez Leonsegui, the Head of Studies. She has an English Language and Literature MA. She is the Bilingual Programme coordinator and Quality System Auditor and evaluator expert on Erasmus+ actions and she has a great experience in Erasmus+ management as a coordinator.

Mr. Pedro Jurado is Viceprincipal and has a Computing MA and has an expertise in Erasmus+ projects and Quality Systems processes as the Quality Assurance Coordinator in our institution. He has a great experience in Erasmus+ KA202 and KA201 projects. The staff of Training and Career Counseling teachers specialized in Entrepreneurial Initiative, which are some of the teachers of these subjects included in the student’s curriculum of vocational training.
